CHAPTER 10
I sat in the limo staring out at Logan, completely dumbfounded. I couldn’t believe he was here. I was feeling so many mixed emotions that I wasn’t sure what to do. I was ecstatic that he would fly here for me, yet I’m not sure why he would. I was scared of what he would say, but more so of what he would not say. Part of me really wanted him both physically and emotionally, but the reasonable part of me was torn about letting him into my life. Could I really be so selfish that I would willingly put someone I care about in danger?
I watched as Frances, Ella, and Marnie walked past Logan, entering the house. He turned expecting me to be on the porch, but I was still hiding in the limo. I had to decide how I was going to handle this before we talked, or I would probably end up selfishly throwing all caution to the wind. I sat there and watched as he walked down the stairs toward me, walking past the limo. Maybe he thought I didn’t want to talk to him so he was leaving. Suddenly the door behind me jerked open.
“Jess?” he questioned as he leaned down to look into the cab. “What are you doing baby?” He looked confused and worried as he slid in next to me. “Why are you still in the car?”
Looking into his beautiful face, I tried to find the right words and the courage to do the right thing, but the lines were blurred. I could no longer see how to control the situation. Taking the only route that was ingrained in me, I feigned disinterest.
“What are you doing here, Logan?” I said coldly.
I had to look away when I spoke to him or else he would see through me.
“I made my wishes clear yesterday.”
My hands shook violently as I made that claim, lying to him and myself. I hid the evidence of my emotions by placing my hands under my thighs so he wouldn’t see through me.
“Jess, please look at me.”
His voice was soft and coaxing like he was talking to a child.
“Fuck you, Logan. Do not sit there and talk to me like I am a child!” I said making direct eye contact with him.
His tone pissed me off enough to forget briefly that eye contact was a bad thing. He raised his brow and threw that half smirk at me like a weapon.
“You are impossible.” I grinned at him through my anger.
He leaned over pulling me into his lap wrapping me up in his arms like he was looking for a lifeline. I could hear his tears as he spoke softly in my ear.
“Baby, I am so sorry. I’m sorry for the life that you have been dealt. I am sorry there was no one there to protect and love you. I am sorry that you feel like you have to live with this fear alone.”
He held me tighter, like I was slipping out of his grip and he was trying to hold on as long as he could.
